Faux Fire Fireplace Insert

My husband and I live in an apartment with a nonworking fireplace. During the winter a lot of our hot air escapes up the fireplace so I wanted to seal it up this year. I thought it would be funny to make it look like a fire was in our fireplace so I cut out a bunch of yellow, red, and orange flames and brown logs and sewed them onto a black backdrop. I tacked it to our fireplace and...voila!...we have a fire in our fireplace. It makes me chuckle every time I see it.

Ruffle Baby Shoes

Baby shoes! Probably the cutest project I've ever worked on. I mean, look at these....so small! So adorable. I made them similar to these but picked some new fall colors.

Simple Fabric Napkins

Fabric napkins are the #1 project I tell new sewers to start on. And yet I had never made any. I figured it was time to make some---and to start saving money by not needing paper napkins anymore! I simply cut out 21"x21" squares, folded over the sides twice and sewed em up.

Oh, and Radiolab is the perfect thing to accompany this project. I listened to about 5 podcasts while sewing up 12 of these napkins. Love that program.

Easy Flower Tee to Tank Redo

I've had this shirt for a while now and knew it was time to mix it up. I've always liked the fabric but it never quite fit me right. I simply took off the sleeves and sewed up the sides a bit. And now I have a cute simple tank.

More Oregon Sea Stars!

I did a photography post about Oregon Sea Stars back here but that hardly compared to the mother load I stumbled upon in Yachats last weekend.

So cool.

Easy Scrap Pillow

I made this pillow out of scraps a couple years ago--and I just love it. It was the very first pillow that I ever made. I used an old pair of pants for the top piece and some yellow fabric that was leftover from another project. Easy, cheap, and adorable!
