March Focus: Graphic Novels

I've read a couple of graphic novels in my day and I've always enjoyed them. After reading Persepolis in January, I decided to give them a whole month of 2014. I didn't do any graphic novel themed movies this time but I was happy with the variety of books that I did get to read.

Here is what I read and watched:

*Read: The Arrival
*Read: The Invention of Hugo Cabret
*Read: Anya's Ghosts
Read: The Walking Dead (Vol 1)
Read: Habibi
Read: American Born Chinese
Read: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life
Read: Watchmen
Read: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

*The first three were probably my favorite but it was fun getting into more superhero themed ones towards the end of the month. If you are new to the graphic novel world, I would definitely recommend The Invention of Hugo Cabret!

Easy Sesame Dinner Bread

Terrible picture...but delicious bread. Trust me.

I love bread. So much. I gave this recipe  a whirl and I was quite pleased with the results. I told my husband how easy it was to make and he said, "Good..because I could eat this every night..."

To make your own delicious loaf of bread heat your oven to 375°. Line a 8x4 bread pan with parchment paper. Then in a mixing bowl add and mix:

3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 eggs
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 cup plain yogurt

After mixing, add these dry ingredients to the wet ones:

1/4 cup milk
1 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 teaspoons salt

Spoon the batter into the baking pan and sprinkle 2 tablespoons sesame seeds on top. Bake in oven for 50 minutes.

ENJOY!

Easy Sweater Bunny

My friend, Molly, loves bunnies so I wanted to make her one. I used an old sweater of my hubby's for the body and a pair of my old sweatpants to add some little soft patches to it.  And what do you get when you turn it over? An adorable little pom pom bunny tail!

It is so quirky its lovable, right?!

Fern Ridge Reservoir

In order to celebrate one of the first warm and sunny days in Eugene, my hubby and I took a long bike ride out to the Fern Ridge Reservoir. It was such a nice ride and it was beautiful seeing the mountains in the distance and the birds flying in the skies.

Easy Rice Pudding

I made too much rice for dinner so I decided to whip up a batch of rice pudding for dessert. I've never made it before but it was so easy..and delicious! To make your own...

Combine in a medium saucepan:

1 Cup Cooked White Rice
1 Cup Milk
5 tsp Sugar
Dash of Salt

Cook for 20 minutes on medium heat....stirring a lot! After it thickens up, remove from heat and stir in a splash of vanilla. Scoop into bowls and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Enjoy!

A Rainy Day on the Coast

One of my most dear friends came to visit a couple weeks back and we took a trip to the coast to celebrate. It was a windy and rainy day but it was pretty amazing to see the ocean in all its glory.

February Focus: Classics

I was going to go a different route in February but I kind of fell into reading some classics! I've been watching the web series Emma, Approved for the past couple of months and was just itching to reread Emma. After I finished that, I decided to just stick with classic coming of age stories stories about young women!

Here is what I read and watched:

Watching: Emma, Approved (a modern day telling of Emma)
Read: Emma
Read: A Little Princess
Read: The Secret Garden
Read: Mr. Knightley's Diary  (a retelling of Emma)
Read: Anne of Avonlea
Read: Anne of the Island
Read: Pippi Longstocking
Watched: Tess of the d'Urbervilles (ep.1)
Watched: Pride and Prejudice
Read: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Watched: Mansfield Park
Re-watching: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (a modern day telling of Pride & Prejudice)
